I have the honour
to noknowledge the
receipt of your despatch of the 4th. instant on the subject
of the "Fatahan" case. (Substance of despatch quoted).
According to a report of the Namhoi Yuriabrate on
this case an examination of the dead body was held by that
official and his coroner's assistents in accordance with the
proceedure laid down in the "Instructions to Corunurz”,
which has constantly proved a reliable quide in holding
such infiesta according to low; established "hinese
practice. As a result of this examination it mus con-
clusively proved that the death had boon caused by injuries.
Dr. ̈avenport'a declaration that the decreased. had died me
the result of illness, and your release of the accuseÒ
on buil roither satisfy the immediate rel-tiven of the
deconsod nor suffice to inspire public confluence.
